How to celebrate the Full Moon with your Children?

The full Moon is quite magical. Just looking at it, at her, peace my soul and bring me comfort. For many years now, I’ve been tracking the Moon because I feel so connected with her. A full moon is a perfect moment to let go. Let go of our fear, our sadness, and much more.

I started with women’s circles in France and missed them deeply when I moved to Denmark. I didn’t find any group in Copenhagen, even if I’m sure such things exist there. Anyway, I started my rituals by lighting a candle, listening to soft music, and picking an oracle card.

After that, I discovered the “Womb Blessing” organized by Miranda Grey, and it helped me also to understand and connect more deeply with the Moon. I know it sounds strange, but when you let go of all that, you can freely receive the “magic.”

A friend sent me a beautiful book for my birthday, and since then, it has guided me through the night and the Moon. Gardiennes de la lune, by Stéphanie Lafranque

So here are simple steps to follow if you want to start with Full Moon rituals:

  • Allow you and moment of calm.
  • Light a candle
  • Listen to soft music (sometimes I prefer not to, as it can distract me, do what feels good for you)
  • Write in a notebook dedicated to the Moon.
  • Write on a piece of paper what you want to be free from. You can start with small sentences like “Tonight I want to say goodbye to…” “Tonight, I let go…”
  • Burn the papers (I love to burn them outside and watch the Moon during this time)
  • Pick a card. It can be an oracle or something else. Sometimes I like to use the card from the board game “Dixit” and try to read the message.

Here are simple things that I love doing with my children. As I can see, they are very fond of magical rituals and connection with nature, and it seems like a fun activity from their point of view. I had to learn how to let go because things don’t always go the way I thought, but I love the energy they bring into it.

  • We bake together small biscuits with a moon shape and stars. I don’t have a perfect moon shape for the moment, so we do small circles! As it’s a full Moon, it works.
  • We lit a candle together, and I found a moon candle holder. This one is only used during the ritual.
  • We write or draw what we are afraid of or don’t want anymore, what we let go. We burn the paper together. The children love this step; they can write their biggest fears and nightmares and let them go.
  • We pick a card and talk together about it.
  • Sometimes, I like to put on music, and we dance wildly. It’s absolutely liberating.

Have you ever done such rituals? Are you curious about it?
