How did the 1000 hours outside change my life?
I want to share with you this amazing challenge.
At the end of last year, I was lost and didn’t know if I wanted to continue homeschooling my children. My youngest daughter wasn’t sleeping anymore during the daytime, and I couldn’t find time for drawing or just thinking. I was starting to search for a børnehave (a Danish institution for children from 3 to 6).
As I was scrolling on Instagram, this picture popped. A 1000-hour challenge.
I immediately fell in love with this idea, intrigued. I started to read a little more about it and couldn’t stop. I couldn’t wait to start.
The challenge was like a commitment, engaging your family and spending as many hours as possible outside.
We started tiny as it was January and really cold in Denmark. After the first hour, the girls were frozen and wanted to return home. But slowly, I tried to find some tricks. We went to the forest with warm oat milk in my backpack and drank a hot beverage surrounded by the beautiful nature.
I bought a hand warmer to help them to stay longer. Baby step by baby step.
This challenge changed a lot of things in my life. It brought calm to my life again. I was still with my children but differently. We talked about all kinds of things, stories, problems, animals… We were taking pictures in the woods, all together. And after that, it was like returning after a long ski day when we came home. We were tired delightfully. My little girl wanted to read some books and draw side by side with me, and I was able to find my “alone” time again.
I leave you the link to this fantastic challenge. It is worth it.
